Job Overview & Responsibilities
United Launch Alliance is seeking a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team as the Lead Manufacturing Engineer for the Launch Operations team at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. In this position, you will guide the team in developing, implementing and executing ULA’s processes and procedures to support both current and future business needs. You will be responsible for leading the team to execute the following:
- Launch Site integration of design manufacturing processes, procedures, production layouts, configuration management and material handling.
- Establish and maintain all Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) (SAP/ORBITS/Rocket Forge) launch site configuration requirements of airborne, ground support, facility and non-flight consumable materials.
- Technical Interface between Design engineering and Operational Systems Engineers (OSE), including reviewing and approving engineering change requests and drawing changes in Teamcenter.
- Develop/maintain the Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) in Teamcenter/ORBITS databases and written work instructions in Rocket Forge/ORBITS work orders based on drawing and process requirements.
- Serve as the launch site representative at Change Management Review Board (CMRB) and review all launch site flight and GSE engineering changes that impact the launch site.
- Coordinates with design engineering, production operations and supply chain full implementation of manufacturing baseline, rework and emergent engineering tasks.
- Reviews and approves technical documents including plans, procedures, and process specifications.
- Coordinate changes with OSE, Material Resource Planner Controllers (MRP-C), Master Production Scheduler (MPS) and planning, establish implementation plans and verify engineering supports the required need.
- Perform analyses, develop metrics and provide management status reports for assigned projects.
- Evaluate employees’ tasks and responsibilities, identifying procedures or tools to improve productivity.
- Create and update training material ensuring the team is compliant with current processes and procedures.
- Investigate latest technology and develop continuous improvement concepts to resolve enterprise tool deficiencies and increase productivity.
- Analyze schedules, and other data and provide management with vehicle processing status reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Required Education
Bachelor
Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
- Work experience in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or Operations.
- NX, Creo, or other CAD model viewing experience.
- Experience with PLM, ERP and MES applications.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, coordination and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a team or as an individual contributor.
- Self-motivated to manage and close on assignments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Available to support launch processing and issues outside of business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Aerospace and Defense Industry.
- Experience working in a Model Based Enterprise (MBE) environment.
- Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles.
- Six Sigma Lean Greenbelt.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, such as multiple launch vehicle missions and continuous improvement projects
- Ability to work across multiple ULA sites and organizations
- Ability to make presentations to and work with internal and external customers
