System Safety Engineer 3

Job Overview & Responsibilities

• This position is to support Launch Ops Cape and Vandenberg. Position will require occasional extended temporary duty travels (TDY's).
• Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.
• Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
• Prepares safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements. 
• Performs development, modification, application and maintenance of quality standards and protocol for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
• Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
• Adheres to implementation methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
• Performs the design or specification of inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
• Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
• May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

Bachelor

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
• Ability to apply Corrective Action tools to identify root cause and corrective actions for anomaly conditions
• Exerience in the design of safe base systems and ensure workability and an understanding of failsafes
• Ability to interprit engineer drawings
• Must have a good understanding of regulatory controls
• Analytical ability to evaluate, interpret, and assimilate data into useable information and provide recommendations based upon results
• Must be able to work around hazardous systems at the launch sites, climb stairs, and access elevated work platforms
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, communicate effectively, work and lead in a team setting, and strong interpersonal skills are required
• Lead multi-discipline continuous improvement teams to improve methods and procedures
• Highly proficient in computer usage and MS Office applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
• Ability to obtain and mantain a DoD clearance is required. US citizenship is required
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to easily interface with peers, leaders, and customers

Preferred Qualifications

• Ideal candidate would also possess some or all of the following:
• Green Belt / Black Belt certification
• Lean and six-sigma certification
• Highly flexible in work schedule (i.e. off-shift, weekends, travel)
• Understanding and exposure to propulsion systems and ordinance installation
