Job Overview & Responsibilities


Ground Software Engineers at United Launch Alliance design, develop, test, operate and maintain mission critical software used to command, control, and monitor systems on the launch vehicle and launch pad systems during launch vehicle manufacturing, assembly, and countdown through liftoff. 


Specific responsibilities Include:

  • Operate as part of an agile/scrum software development team taking features from requirements development through design, implementation, and test.
  • Will bring a seasoned system development skill set and be a strong advocate for advancing leading edge software development techniques and technologies.
  • Responsible for developing new software features, implementing modern software design principles, resolving complex technical problems, and providing solutions which are innovative, extensible and robust.
  • Will work with a highly collaborative team in an Agile environment embracing a “fail fast” mentality (fail fast, fail often, react quickly and learn from every failure).
  • Engage with Product Owners, Technology Architects, QA and/or Automation team members on cross-functional activities to design, develop, and test cutting-edge software solutions.
  • Evolve and Improve Software and Software practices for a more testable and maintainable code base.
  • Produce high quality software that meets stakeholder needs, delivers value for the enterprise, and most importantly ensures a successful launch every time!
  • Provide live support and expertise during launch site operations in support of on time launch.
  • This position is in Denver, CO, and can be hybrid in nature, but fully remote candidates will not be considered.


Required Education



Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 6 years of related work experience


Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with embedded C++ software development and testing.
  • Experience with Linux-based operating systems.
  • Experience with object-oriented designs and languages.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on Agile Scrum/Kanban development teams.
  • Understanding of Software Configuration Management practices and tools.
  • Experience with integration testing, unit testing, and/or requirements verification.
  • Architecture/design of software solutions.
  • Experience with Python.

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only):  $136,714.00 - $213,580.00

Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
