Job Overview & Responsibilities

  

At ULA, the Ground Software Technical Product Owner 3 supports the definition, prioritization, and delivery of ground software capabilities that enable launch vehicle, pad, and mission integration operations. In this role, you work within a cross‑functional agile team to contribute to requirements development, feature planning, and verification activities. You collaborate closely with systems engineering, mission integration, avionics, GSE, and ground software teams to help ensure software features align with operational needs and integrate effectively within the broader launch system. This position focuses on applying systems‑engineering discipline and product‑focused thinking to mature and deliver reliable ground software functionality.

 

As a Ground Software Technical Product Owner 3, you will:

 

• Support an agile scrum team by assisting in defining product vision, maintaining the backlog, and translating stakeholder needs into actionable work items.

• Develop and refine clear, testable software requirements that reflect operational needs and integrate with vehicle, pad, and mission systems under guidance from senior team members.

• Coordinate with systems engineers, architects, and interface owners to ensure requirements and features align with system architecture and mission operations.

• Assist with requirement decomposition, traceability, acceptance criteria development, and validation planning throughout the software lifecycle.

• Work with system owners to understand expected software behaviors, interfaces, timing constraints, and data flows to ensure accurate representation within ground software products.

• Participate in design discussions with software developers to help ensure implementation aligns with functional and system‑level expectations.

• Contribute to backlog grooming, sprint planning, and prioritization activities—balancing technical needs, operational priorities, and stakeholder input.

• Support review of verification results, user acceptance tests, and IV&V findings to confirm that delivered software meets requirements and operational intent.

• Assist in cross‑team coordination to identify dependencies, integration needs, and gaps across GSW, avionics, GSE, and mission integration organizations.

• Help maintain documentation, configuration management, and compliance with standards relevant to ground software systems.

 

Required Education

Bachelor

 

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working on an agile development team
  • Experience independently designing, developing, and delivering solutions to difficult software/hardware problems
  • Experience presenting hardware/software system architecture and designs to both internal audiences as well as external customers
  • Experience in authoring, executing, and reviewing software products and their implementation throughout the full software development life cycle
  • Experience with object-oriented designs and languages
  • Experience with C/C++
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management practices including
    • Agile Methodologies
    • Git

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designing and architecting software for complex solutions
  • Experience serving as a technical lead on software development efforts
  • Experience providing guidance, training, or mentoring to less experienced engineers
  • Experience with Python
  • Expertise with development and troubleshooting of timing-critical hardware and Software systems
  • Experience with secure software development practices
  • Experience in the aerospace, launch, or defense industry

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only):  $113,122.00 - $188,537.00

Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
