Human Spaceflight Integration Systems Engineer 2

Job Overview & Responsibilities

ULA launches the most unique and complex spacecraft systems in the world for a variety of customers. The Human Spaceflight team is front and center working directly with ULA's customers to certify our launch systems for human-rated missions, develop systems that protect ground and flight crews, and train and certify teams that support human launches.

This position will support the NASA/Civil and Artemis programs in facilitating and maintaining the human rating of Atlas V, ICPS, and Vulcan. Working alongside chief engineers, systems engineering, system safety, and technical leads, the Human Space Flight (HSF) Integration Systems Engineer will perform the following types of tasks:

• Develop certification products and evaluate changes against those products, including human spaceflight design & construction standards, hazard reports and variances, flight rules, and emergency detection system
• Evaluate human spaceflight safety risks and support presentation to internal and external customers
• Collaborate with external customers to address open technical concerns and risks, including support to NASA insight and CoFR (certification of flight readiness) prior to each launch
• Train for and/or provide training to others for operational support positions to support our customers and keep crew safe, such as HAL (HSF Anomaly Lead) or Ascent Team
• Support proposals for new business for human spaceflight programs
• Drive process improvement initiatives within the HSF team to manage scope of work, business rhythm, and interfaces to other stakeholders

This position requires knowledge of Systems Engineering and Integration processes and tools including requirements management, technical risk assessment, technical planning, trade studies, failure modes assessments. Experience supporting multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical issues is required. Knowledge of existing and evolving ULA launch systems strongly desired.

This position requires excellent written and oral communication proficiency in conjunction with organization skills necessary to maintain focus and achieve consensus within diverse multi-disciplined teams. Internal and external customer interface activities will require strong communication and leadership skills. The candidate should have demonstrated technical knowledge in areas that drive launch system design such as aerospace structural analysis and design, propulsion analysis and design, electrical analysis and design, software development, system analysis, and ground systems. The successful candidate will be a self-starter able to work autonomously, learn, tailor and execute processes, and perform in a collaborative environment.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, applied mathematics, or related technical field from an accredited college or university 
• Experience working with existing and evolving launch systems or spacecraft system requirements.
• Experience supporting cross-functional teams in the performance of requirements analysis, development, integration, and verification: trade study management and risk management.
• Organization skills necessary to maintain focus and achieve consensus within diverse multi-disciplined teams
• Experience developing, implementing, and tailoring systems engineering processes.
• Experience with Word, Excel, and Power Point to include the integration of slides for large presentations to customers Written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic and sense of urgency for completing work assignments and meeting schedule commitments.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills; comfortable communicating tailored messages to higher level stakeholders, customers, peers, and subordinates.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, supporting multiple high-priority objectives.
• Ability to travel (10%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and background with previous large-scale launch vehicle programs, including the Atlas, Delta, or Vulcan families.
• Experience and background with significant launch systems and components.
• Experience with Human Spaceflight programs, human rating/certification, and/or ascent operations.
