Job Overview & Responsibilities

  

The AS&D Vulcan Development team is looking for mechanical engineering support of Vulcan Launch Vehicle Upgrades. The specific role develops structural mechanical designs to accommodate Vulcan Booster Engine Reuse and Deployable Heatshield development programs. The individual in this position will serve as a mechanical design engineer responsible for the following:

  • Creating and revising engineering models, drawings, and specifications of various structural/mechanical components and assemblies in support of launch vehicle and mission requirements.
  • Participate in rapid prototyping of deployable Re-entry devices and Booster Structural components to demonstrate early capability
  • Support Qualification efforts of experiment and flight hardware
  • Participate in trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility, and performance.
  • Support engineering corrective actions where needed through change management
  • Develops design improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improves performance and/or reliability.
  • The job assignment may require coordination with mission management, production sites, launch sites, suppliers, test facilities, and payload customers in support of design, production & test schedules.
  • Must have good oral and presentation skills to effectively communicate design and analysis solutions to technical management, program management, and our customer counterparts.

Minimum of 2 years of related work experience

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university 
  • Familiar with structural / mechanical system engineering design, development & qualification
  • Strong GD&T interpretation and implementation capabilities
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Ability to operate with limited support from senior engineers
  • Time management skills and strong self-initiative
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and industry/government standards
  • Ability to travel

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX
  • Project integration skills
  • Experience with rapid development and prototyping
  • Technical understanding of metallic, composite, and textile structural design and manufacturing
  • Familiar with hardware non-conformance resolution
  • Utilization of agile processes in a development program environment

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only):  $81,695.00 - $136,159.00

Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
